It’s Comeback Season: What Obedience to God Really Looks Like

↳

Part 1

I’ve been MIA for a hot minute, and honestly… life has been life’n! So grab a cup of whatever you drink because this post may be a little longer than usual.

Since my last post, God has been teaching our family some life-changing lessons about obedience—what it looks like, what it costs, and the incredible blessings that come on the other side of surrender.

We learned something that wasn’t easy to admit: we had become so focused on what we wanted and how we wanted things to happen that we tolerated situations where we were being mistreated and taken advantage of. We convinced ourselves that enduring it was the right thing to do. I’ll share more about that in another post because God has done a work there too.

But today, I want to talk about what I truly believe is our comeback season.

We’ve walked through some difficult seasons over the last few years, but if there’s one thing I know without a doubt, it’s this:

This season has shown me just how incredible my God is. I’ve experienced what it really means to put my full trust in Him and choose obedience, even when I couldn’t see the outcome.

Don’t get me wrong—every day isn’t easy. Following Christ doesn’t eliminate hardships, but it does change how we walk through them.

I’ve seen the fruit of seeds planted years ago.
The fruit of faithfulness.
The fruit of obedience.

As Galatians 6:9 reminds us:

For years we lived in a two-bedroom apartment that had simply become… comfortable.

We told ourselves:

Sometimes comfort quietly turns into complacency.

Our landlord raised the rent in the new year.

Then he raised it again a couple of months later.

Not by a little either.

I remember getting that text announcing the second increase and immediately feeling overwhelmed.

As anxiety filled my mind, my husband happened to get a call from a friend. Half joking, I said,

“Ask him if the apartment he was renting out is still available.”

I knew the previous tenants had moved out months earlier, but rentals around here disappear fast. I assumed it had already been rented.

To our complete surprise…

It was still vacant.

Only God could orchestrate a casual conversation between friends at exactly the moment we needed an answer.

For almost thirteen years, our family had sacrificed space.

When we moved into our old apartment in 2013, we had one child and another on the way.

Fast forward to 2026.

Now we have three children, two adults, one dog, one cat, and we were all trying to fit into that same two-bedroom apartment.

Our living room had become our bedroom.

We couldn’t control the heat.

We didn’t have access to a washer or dryer.

We couldn’t park in the driveway.

There was only one entrance and one exit.

We handled nearly every repair ourselves unless it affected the landlord too.

Yet somehow we convinced ourselves that this was simply “good enough.”

Today…

We have three bedrooms.

The living room is finally a living room again.

We control our own heat.

We have driveway parking.

A basement for storage.

Washer and dryer hookups.

Multiple entrances and exits.

As Ephesians 3:20 says,

Receiving God’s blessing didn’t mean the transition was easy.

Leaving the old behind came with unexpected challenges.

There were frustrations.

Conflict.

Stress.

Moments where it felt like everything that could go wrong was going wrong.

Looking back, I truly believe this was the first of many tests God would use to strengthen my faith.

His grace carried me.

That verse became more than words on a page.

It became something I lived.

For the first time, the phrase “Let go and let God” became real to me.

My emotions completely overwhelmed me.

My anxiety consumed my thoughts until I finally cried out to the Lord.

I prayed something like this:

Something changed after that prayer.

Not because every circumstance immediately improved.

But because I finally surrendered.

Once I got out of my own head and stopped trying to control every outcome, an overwhelming peace settled over me.

Not temporary relief.

Not wishful thinking.

The kind of peace only God can give.

I realized that God wasn’t just moving us into a new apartment.

He was moving me into a new season.

A season of freedom.

A season of peace.

A season of discovering who I really am—not through the world’s expectations, but through my identity in Christ.

Looking back now, I can honestly say that what felt like a stressful transition was actually the beginning of God restoring, refining, and revealing who He created me to be.

And if this is only the beginning…

I can’t wait to see what He does next.
